Scaffolding Begins to Come Down at Savoy Park – A Sign of Progress

After years of living under rusted metal and shadowed sidewalks, tenants at Buildings 60 and 630 are finally seeing long-awaited progress: the scaffolding is starting to come down. While there's still a long road ahead for the entire Savoy Park complex, this visible shift marks a hard-fought win for the tenant community.

This change didn’t happen overnight. It’s the direct result of over a year of tireless work by the Savoy Park Tenants Union (SPTU) — organizing meetings with Fairstead Management, showing up and speaking out at Community Board 10 meetings, and engaging elected officials and local leaders to push for real, measurable improvements.

Scaffolding has long been a symbol of neglect at Savoy Park: lingering for years with no explanation, blocking security cameras, darkening walkways, and violating NYC safety regulations. For too long, residents were left wondering when they'd see any movement at all. Now, as pieces begin to come down, we’re reminded of what’s possible when tenants are united, persistent, and refuse to be ignored.

While much more remains to be done across the complex — from structural repairs to restored safety and better living conditions — we take this moment to celebrate a clear step forward and reaffirm our commitment to seeing this work through. Change is slow, but it’s coming — and we’re not stopping here.
