On Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 PM, the Savoy Park Tenants Union (SPTU) will welcome tenants, neighbors, and community members to our monthly meeting at 45 W 139th St in Harlem.

This month’s gathering will include a conversation with candidates running for local, state, and federal office, offering residents an opportunity to hear directly from those seeking to represent our community at a moment when issues of affordability, housing access, tenant protections, and political representation remain deeply urgent.

Candidates currently planning to attend include:

  • Conrad Blackburn: Candidate for New York State Assembly District 70

  • Raj Goyle: Candidate for New York State Comptroller

  • Candace Niles: Candidate for Representative, U.S. House New York District 13

Each candidate will have up to five minutes to speak, followed by questions from the community. Attendees will be invited to submit questions on notecards during the meeting.

The conversation is expected to focus on issues facing Harlem residents and tenants, including housing affordability and Area Median Income (AMI) calculations, the increasing role of corporate ownership in residential housing, tenant protections and landlord accountability, voting rights, and how state and federal investments impact affordability and long-term neighborhood stability.

SPTU believes tenants deserve direct access to the people asking for their vote. Our goal is to create space for meaningful dialogue, transparency, and community engagement around the issues that shape daily life in Harlem. Community members are encouraged to attend, bring questions, and invite neighbors to join the conversation.

For questions about the meeting, please contact SPTU at hello@savoyparktenantsunion.org.

Community members can also check or update their voter registration through the official NYC Board of Elections website: NYC Voter Registration Information
