On Saturday, April 27, 2024, dozens of residents gathered outside the Savoy Park Apartments in Harlem to demand safe, dignified living conditions in the face of ongoing neglect. The “Save the Savoy” rally, organized by the Savoy Park Tenant Union, was a bold and unified demonstration of tenant power, calling out Fairstead Management for failing to address the persistent issues plaguing the buildings.
Tenants shared harrowing stories of leaking ceilings, mold, pest infestations, and broken gates—conditions that have gone unresolved despite repeated complaints. The rally featured a press conference and building walkthrough, shining a public spotlight on the unsafe environment residents have been forced to endure.
With community support and media coverage—including a powerful feature on CBS News watch here—tenants delivered a clear message: We will not be ignored. Elected officials Senator Cordell Cleare and Council Member Yusuf Salaam were present, standing in solidarity and urging Fairstead, as well as local and state housing authorities, to act immediately.
